The Montford Park Players invite you to join some of our stage’s finest fighters to learn the Ins and Outs of Stage Combat.
Learn to wield Knives, Broadswords, Quarter Staves, your Fists and so much more in this season-long workshop series, taught by MPP’s Most Experienced Fighters!
Plus, get guidance on how to Act Your Fight, and Play Your Injuries to make you a better fighter and actor on stage.
Each Session will cover a new skill-set and can be catered to all skill levels.
The first hour of each meeting will be tailored to more beginner fighters, and the remaining two hours will build more on what we learned, offering opportunity for specialized choreography and more advanced teaching.
Those who join us for multiple sessions throughout the season will have the opportunity to join our Student Fight Showcase in October!

Fight Club is Free Always! We want everyone to have the chance to feel like a Fighter.
If you are able, a suggested donation of $5-$10 is happily accepted day-of. All donations go directly to building the theatre’s Sword, Padding, and Armory fund, so we can do even bigger and better fights in the future!

Water Bottles, Sunscreen, Bug Spray and Hats are recommended, as we are an outdoor theatre complex.
Keep an eye out for more dates, coming soon!
Gain Confidence, Get Exercise, and Enjoy the Fun of Fighting at Fight Club!

All money raised by MPP Fight Club goes to the Swords, Padding, Armor and Training (SPAT) Fund. The SPAT Fund is working towards building our armory stock, bolstering our safety equipment, and facilitating interested members becoming Certified Stage Combatants. The SPAT Fund, which has an Ultimate Goal of $9,000, will do this through a series of smaller goals that have concrete material impacts on the functionality and safety of Fight Club and our theatre’s fighters.
Funds are raised through the suggested donation for Fight Club sessions, Fight Club sticker sales, Student Showcase donations, and Direct Goal Sponsorship. You’ll find more information on Donating and Direct Goal Sponsorship after the Goal Descriptions below.
SPAT Fund Goals:
Goal 1 at $1,650 of $9,000:
4 Aluminum Broadswords
Broadswords are some of the most common weapons used on the Montford stage, and we have a selection of Steel Broadswords at MPP. For a long time, Steel was the main material used in creating stage weapons. The issue? Steel is HEAVY, and tarnishes easily. This means exhausted arms and dingy blades. The Solution? Aluminum! Aluminum Blades have recently become more widely available and have a few key advantages for a theatre like ours. Aluminum is easier to keep clean, with gentle oiling the shine stays for much longer without corroding on our outdoor stage. More importantly, Aluminum is much LIGHTER! This not only makes it easier to do longer fights, it also makes it more ACCESSIBLE to do stage combat comfortably for those unable to hoist giant chunks of steel. Not to mention, the sound of Aluminum swords makes any fight musical. The monetary goal reflects the current price of Four Aluminum Broadswords from our preferred Armorer.
Goal 2 at $3,150 of $9,000
Crash Pads
There’s no getting around it, falling on the concrete or wood of the stage over and over (and over and over) again is not the most comfortable experience. With the fights, stunts, and falls we love to do with our advanced members, it can be rough on the body when you’re rehearsing 5 days a week, and performing for 4 weekends in a row after that. With Crash Pads though, training becomes a whole lot softer. Two new Crash Pads help our fight and stunt capabilities expand immensely! Nasty, tumbles, breaking through walls, falling from places you shouldn’t, it all becomes possible with 8”-12” of padding to catch you. The monetary goals reflects the current price of One 4’x6’x12” Crash Pad, and One 6’x8’x8” Crash Pad from our preferred vendor.
Goal 3 at $3,650 of $9,000
Gym Mats
Like the crash pads, Gym Mats help with injury prevention and fighter comfort. Gymnasium Mats, like in your high school gym, are less thick than crash pads and can be easily hidden ON STAGE in order to make repetitive falls in our common fights easier. Our upper stage is mostly concrete, so a bit of extra padding wouldn’t hurt at all. The monetary goal reflects the current price of Two 6’x8’ Foldable Gym Mats from our preferred vendor.
Goal 4 at $3,950 of $9,000
Knives
We love a Knife fight, but sourcing stage knives has to be done with care. You want to find blades light and dull enough to be safe to use on stage, while also looking deadly enough to make your audiences gasp as you wield them. This goal would supplement our stage knife collection with new, sturdy, aluminum Knives. The monetary goal reflects the current price of Six Aluminum Stage Knives from our preferred Armorer.
Goal 5 at $5,350 of $9,000
4 Aluminum Rapiers
Just like with broadswords, a heavy rapier can leave wrists and shoulders exhausted and achy. Expanding our Aluminum Rapiers collection allows for better suited weapon choices for those new to stage combat, or those who are physically impaired. It also expands our capability for large group fights, which MPP veterans will tell you are more common than you’d think. The monetary goal reflects the current price of Four Aluminum Rapiers from our preferred Armorer.
Goal 6 at $6,350 of $9,000
Body Armor
MPP recently received a generous donation of a few Body Armor sets for the upper body, and we are obsessed! This Armor not only makes it possible for our experienced fighters to do crazier things than they’ve ever done before, it also makes falls possible for those with physical limitations while protecting and supporting the back and chest. This Armor was originally designed for motorcycles and can be hidden under costumes, or worn on the outside for a tougher look so the fights are safe no matter the genre. The Body Armor goal also covers a new bulk order of knee and elbow pads in all sizes, to make sure anyone who participates in a show or in Fight Club has access to new, clean safety equipment. The monetary goal reflects the current price of Five Sets of Torso Armor and Bulk Orders of Kneepads and Elbow Pads from our preferred vendors.
Goal 7 at $9,000 of $9,000
Invited Instructor for Member Certification
The Ultimate Goal of the SPAT fund is to hire and host an instructor to facilitate a Certification Workshop for interested Fight Club and Community Members. This would give MPP members the opportunity to become certified in different styles of stage combat through a workshop at our own theatre instead of traveling states away like many have to do. More details on the type of combat and who the instructor is will be available as we begin to approach this goal in our fundraising. The monetary goal reflects the current estimate for Housing and Hiring a Guest Instructor for a Week-Long Certification Workshop.
How can I Support SPAT?
MPP’s Fight Club is always Free to our community, however, those who are able and interested can give a suggested donation of $5-$10 per Fight Club Session. All of this goes directly to the SPAT Fund. You can find information about when our next Fight Club session is on the Fight Club page or any of our Socials.
